I'm a freelance photographer living with my wife in Germantown, TN, just outside Memphis, although I was born and raised in London, England; growing up during those enlightening swinging 60s. My passion for photography started in 1966 with the release of the movie "Blow Up," directed by Michelangelo Antonioni, which portrayed the exploits of a London based photographer who unwittingly becomes involved in a murder!
My photography is a personal experience of visual excitement and joy; poetic and creative intoxication if you will, capturing compelling moments in time. My niche in photography is landscapes, which also includes city and water-scapes. I try to express in my art a skill and imagination that compels and draws a viewer to stop and take notice; to linger and to be challenged. Somewhere on my photographic journey I read that a good photograph is not about what you shoot; but about how you shoot. It isn't about what you see; it's about how you see. With this in mind I strive to be patient and technical in my approach to how I shoot, and I endeavor to remain alert and to recognize the potential for strong visual design in what I see.
My art has received numerous awards and I have exhibited, both solo and as a collective in a many of the Memphis art galleries. Four my images were published in the 2010 "Capture Memphis coffee table book, and a selection of my work was used during the 2011 annual Memphis leadership conference.
2012 Update: Earlier this year Playhouse on the Square hosted an exhibition of my work (40 images) entitled "Do you see what I see," and I'm currently working on two commissions (private and commercial) that feature notable Memphis landmarks.
Please feel free to leave your comments in my guest book and if you would like to purchase any of my art or get in touch with me please e-mail. Thank you for dropping by.
